Summit & Sage

Park City's local guide for active women.

Hey hey,

It's Pioneer Day … or Pie-and-Beer Day, depending on, well, lots of things. One of those quirky Utah things where we celebrate like it's the 4th of July all over again — a bit of patriotism for our state, I guess, and the day the pioneers trekked down Emigration Canyon and into the valley.

Growing up here, this was one of the great things about July: two big holidays in one month, which meant fireworks twice and staying up too late twice.

However you celebrate, I hope it's with some time outside. If I might suggest: the water. I'll be doing a little rafting, but you can fish, paddle, or float. Whatever cools you off in this heat.

And if you're feeling ambitious, head up to Jupiter Peak and peek out over the Salt Lake side at where it all started. Gold ⭐️ if you go the long way.

Ideas for all of it below. 🚣‍♀

Six mature-friendly shades. One mascara that actually stays put.

Most mascaras promise length… then leave you with smudges, flakes, and clumps by lunchtime.

That’s why so many 50+ women are switching to PrimeLash.

It’s a tubing mascara designed for your lashes, wrapping each one to lift, define, and separate...even the ones that might be too small to see.

And when it’s time to take PrimeLash off? It slides right off with warm water. No rubbing or irritation.

From everyday black to soft brown, plus bold shades like Emerald, Burgundy, and Mulberry… there’s a color for every kind of day.

Get longer-looking lashes with zero smudge. Finally.

ON THE TRAILS

Jupiter Peak

Length: 4.3 miles (short way) or 16 miles (the whole thing)

Summit: 9,998 ft | Modes: Hike • Run

Trailheads: Empire Pass, off Guardsman Pass Road (short) · Park City Mountain base (long)

Jupiter Peak is the summit you can see from almost everywhere in town, which makes it the most satisfying one to stand on. It is not a casual walk, but you have two good ways to earn the view.

The Short Way
Start from Empire Pass off Guardsman Pass Road (you might need to be dropped off, depending on parking) and take the 9K Trail toward McConkey's. About 4.3 miles round trip with roughly 1,150 feet of climbing, moderate the whole way, and the wildflowers are going off right now. You will share the upper trails with bikes, so keep an ear out on the corners.

The Long Way
The full loop from the Park City Mountain base via Spiro and Keystone runs about 16 miles with 3,300 feet of gain, resort base at 7,000 feet to the summit at nearly 10,000 and back down. The elevation profile is shaped like a capital V, and your quads and glutes will feel it.

Last Saturday I ran the Jupiter Peak Steeplechase, the 25K race that follows that exact line. It is the second leg of the Triple Trail Challenge, and I ran it a bit undertrained after a few weeks of minimal running and travel. Happy with both my respectable finish, and a race to push me to get back into routine.

This last final summit push looked so much worse when I approached it.

What 2,400 Women Can Do

Last Wednesday, Park City Community Foundation's Women's Giving Fund held its annual Grant Celebration at Legacy Lodge. The fund is more than 2,400 members strong. Women join for life with a $1,000 contribution or monthly gifts of any amount, the fund is endowed, and each year members vote on where the biggest grant goes. Since 2015, members have collectively granted $808,000 to organizations supporting women+ and children in Summit County, including $150,000 this year alone.

This year's high-impact grantee is Summit County Clubhouse, which received $90,000. The Clubhouse helps people living with mental health and substance use challenges build stable, connected lives, and the grant will expand its daily program to serve more women, boost emergency housing assistance, and support transitional housing for women exiting treatment or homelessness. The other two finalists, PC READS and St. Mary's Catholic Church Charitable Assistance Program, each received $30,000. Twenty-two organizations applied this year.

"There's nothing like watching 2,400 women+ turn their collective generosity into real support for the organizations doing essential work in our community," said Rebecca Blanchette, development manager at Park City Community Foundation, in the Park Record's coverage.

In the same spirit: last week was also Girls on the Run Utah's FORE the Girls golf tournament at Old Mill Golf Course. Full disclosure, I am on the board, so I am biased. But watching a course full of people show up so more girls can learn they are capable of hard things never gets old.

STUFF WE LIKE

Tracksmith FTW

This outfit has officially graduated to go-to status … my "when it's clean" pick. I wore it last weekend, and somewhere on the trail a fellow runner shouted a compliment as they passed. 🏅

I want all of the colors of both.

I love Tracksmith as a brand. This is not sponsored, just a genuine fan. Their marathon-specific pieces, the ones that nod to iconic races, strike the right balance of charming and fun, but still built to run in.

Van Cortlandt Shorts — One of Tracksmith's original pieces from their very first collection. The 2.5" mesh short has built-in gel pockets, and it's stayed comfortable and chafe-free through every long effort I've put it through. I love the stripes and these could be styled for the farmer’s market, Saturday errands, or wherever you’re headed for a casual day.

Twilight Crop Tank — Featherlight, UPF 30+, and built to disappear once you're moving.

FOR THE GROUP CHAT

What We're Sending Each Other

🎧 Listening · “Lost Boys” — Phoebe Bridgers (her new album drops August 14). Her performance on Fallon with those kids was beyond sweet.

🌟 Inspo · Courtney Dauwalter just won Hardrock 100 for the fourth year in a row — read the recap

🏔️ Culture · Flavor Flav just threw a four-day celebration for 100+ Team USA women Olympians A Strip parade, keys to the city, and a response to the pay-and-attention gap in women's sports

💡 Insight · Overthinking isn't a character flaw — it's a predictable anxiety mechanism, and understanding why your brain ruminates is the first step to loosening its grip
